Beans : Designing an Embodied Game for Engaging Learning about Wireless Communication Systems
Jin Yu, Noah Posner, Sherry Hsi, HyunJoo Oh
Beans is a design study of embodied gameplay intended to supplement teaching about wireless communication systems. We developed the tangible interface Beans using a BBC Micro:bit to assist embodied interaction for playing and learning basic wireless communication concepts such as transmitter and receiver, signal strength, and channel. We conducted a pilot study with six youth between the ages of 12 and 15 during a summer camp and observed how embodied gameplay with Beans could foster engagement and assist in modeling the concepts of wireless communication systems.
