Jin Yu is a Ph.D. candidate in Human-Centered Computing at Georgia Tech, advised by Prof. HyunJoo Oh. Her research lies at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction, Educational Technology, and Co-design. She designs tangible and digital toolkits that foster creative expression and active learning, drawing from the tradition of learning through designing, to enable young learners to engage deeply with technology. Her Ph.D. work explores how physical computing and hands-on making can support students in co-designing technologies, with a particular focus on domains such as wireless communication. Through iterative, design-based research, she has developed a series of toolkits that support students in ideation, prototyping, and evaluation, deepening their participation in the design of future technologies. By fostering this deeper engagement, her work supports personally meaningful, constructionist learning experiences grounded in real-world contexts. She aims to expand this work by exploring how design tools can help students learn through making and engage critically with technologies like AI. Jin has published her work in top venues such as CHI, TEI, and IDC, and her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF ##2053160). She contributes to inclusive design practices and constructionist learning through both her research and teaching. She has served as a teaching assistant, guest lecturer, and instructor in both design and computing courses, and is committed to fostering equitable, engaging learning environments that support diverse ways of knowing and making.
